Dr. Mike Meier is currently the Interim Senior Medical Director of the Critical Care Strategic Clinical Network. Dr. Meier has served as Medical Director of the University of Alberta Hospital General Systems Critical Care/Trauma unit, and a Clinical Professor of Critical Care and Surgery at the University of Alberta.

He has been a member of the Critical Care Department at the University of Alberta Hospital since 1994, continuing to practice Surgery (predominantly minimally invasive upper GI surgery) at the Grey Nuns until 2008 when he assumed unit directorship at the University Hospital and a full time administrative, as well as clinical role in Critical Care.

Dr. Meier was Director of Core Training in Surgery for the Department of Surgery at the University of Alberta from 1995 to 2004 and a member of the residency training committees for both General Surgery and Critical Care during that time, continuing involvement with the Critical Care training program to the present.

He was secretary of the Alberta Society of Intensive Care Physicians, followed by a three-year position as President of the Society and section head and representative to the Alberta Medical Association.

Dr. Meier was awarded a University of Alberta Humanism in Medicine Award in 2012, an annual award honoring faculty members for exemplifying outstanding humanism in medicine along with scientific excellence.
