Project Title: “Determining the optimal treatment method for opioid withdrawal in ER.ICU patients within Alberta: A systematic review and meta-analysis” The objective of this line of research is to help inform the decisions on the optimal treatment method for opioid withdrawal in ER/ICU patients within Alberta. The investigators will perform a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational and randomized clinical trials (RCTs) which 1) describe both pharmacologic and non- pharmacologic therapies for opioid withdrawal in critically ill patients 2) determine the association of suboxone, methadone, and other published therapies with patient mortality, complications, compliance, health related quality of life and economic impact on emergency and critical care services.
2. Dr. Darryl Rolfson
Project Title: "Frailty inclusive care pathways in acute and community-based care” The validated Clinical Frailty Score (CFS) is the measure of frailty entered at the time of admission for every patient admitted to ICU in Alberta. The next logical step in utilizing the CFS is the development of a novel frailty-friendly care pathway to benefit ICU patients with frailty well before they enter the ICU, for the duration of their stay in ICU, and on discharge from ICU to ward, home or continuing care. This systematic review will help inform the development of that care pathway.
